Frequently Asked Questions
-
What is Hilo Pool Room?
Hilo is a members-only pool room and social workspace in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It is designed for people who want tournament-quality billiards, a comfortable place to work, and a welcoming community—all under one roof.
Who is Hilo for?
Hilo is for competitive players, social players who appreciate quality equipment, and remote workers looking for a productive third place. You do not need to be an expert, but every member is expected to respect the game, the room, and the people sharing it.
Where is Hilo located?
Hilo is located in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, near the Morgan Avenue, Montrose Avenue, Grand Street, Jefferson Street, and Graham Avenue L train stations. The full address will be shared with approved members and day-pass holders.
When is Hilo open?
Members in good standing receive 24/7 access, subject to maintenance, private events, emergencies, building restrictions, and occasional temporary closures. Day-pass access is available only during the date and times specified when the pass is purchased.
Is Hilo staffed around the clock?
No. Hilo operates with limited on-site staffing. Members share responsibility for keeping the room clean, secure, and welcoming. Digital access and security systems help protect the club and its members.

What tables and equipment does Hilo offer?
Hilo features four 9-foot Gabriels Sentinel tables equipped with Simonis 860 cloth, Dynasphere Palladium balls, and 4.5-inch pockets. All tables and equipment are professionally maintained to provide consistent, tournament-quality playing conditions.
How are the tables used?
Two tables may be reserved in advance, while one/two remain available for social, walk-in play. This balance allows members to schedule focused practice while preserving opportunities for spontaneous games and meeting other players.
Can I reserve a table?
Yes. Members may reserve one of the two designated reservation tables online up to seven days in advance.
Each reservation is limited to a maximum of two hours. Members may hold up to two future reservations at a time. Once a reservation is completed or canceled, the member may book another.
Members may continue playing after their reservation only if the table is not reserved by another member and nobody is waiting.
What happens if I am late?
If you have not checked in within 15 minutes after your reservation begins, the table may be released to another member.
What is the cancellation policy for table reservations?
Please cancel at least four hours before your reservation begins. Repeated late cancellations or no-shows may result in temporary restrictions on advance booking privileges.
How do the social tables work?
The two social tables are first-come, first-served and cannot be reserved in advance.
Members who want to play add their names to the active player list. Each turn consists of one game. When the game ends, the winner stays at the table and the next person on the list becomes the challenger. The player who loses may add their name to the end of the list to play again.
This format keeps games moving, introduces members to new opponents, and gives everyone waiting a fair opportunity to play.
When nobody is waiting, players may continue playing without interruption.
What if all four tables are occupied?
Members with reservations receive priority on the two reservable tables. Day-pass holders and members may join the player list for the social tables. During busy periods, members are encouraged to meet and play with others.
How many members will Hilo accept?
Membership is intentionally limited to protect table availability and the quality of the member experience. Hilo monitors reservation demand, social-table wait times, peak-hour usage, and member feedback before accepting additional members. Hilo may pause new admissions and maintain a waitlist whenever needed.
Do I need to clean the table after playing?
Yes. Return balls, racks, bridges, and house cues to their designated locations, remove personal items and trash, and follow the posted table-care instructions. Only approved products may be used on the tables or equipment.
-
Can I work from Hilo?
Yes. Hilo offers high-speed Wi-Fi, convenient power outlets, and comfortable shared areas where members can use a laptop, answer emails, or get some individual work done between games.
Hilo is an active pool room and social club, so members should expect conversation, music, and the sound of pool balls throughout the space. It is not intended to be a silent office or a setting for phone and video meetings.
Can I bring food?
Yes. Members may bring prepared food and use the refrigerator and microwave. Please label anything placed in the refrigerator, remove it before leaving, and clean the area after use.
Meals should be eaten in the designated seating area. Food is not permitted on or over the pool tables.
Can I order food for delivery?
Yes. Members may order food for delivery but are responsible for meeting the delivery person at the building entrance. Delivery drivers may not be given access to the club.
May I bring alcohol?
Members and day-pass holders who are at least 21 years old may bring alcoholic beverages for their own personal consumption, subject to Hilo’s House Rules and applicable law.
Alcohol may not be sold, shared with anyone under 21, or left behind. Unsafe play, disruptive behavior, and excessive intoxication are not permitted. Hilo may limit or withdraw BYOB privileges when necessary to protect members and the club.
Is Hilo a social club?
Yes. Community is a central part of Hilo. The social tables, shared work areas, and member events are designed to make it easy to meet other players, find new opponents, practice together, and spend time with people who enjoy the game.
-
How much does membership cost?
Membership is $195 per month and renews automatically each month until canceled.
A one-time $195 new-member fee applies after the presale period. Members who join during presale will have the new-member fee waived.
What is the $45 early-access deposit?
The $45 deposit holds your place in the presale order and will be credited toward your first membership payment if your application is accepted and you activate your membership.
The deposit will be refunded if Hilo does not open or does not accept your membership application. The deposit is otherwise nonrefundable if you decide not to activate your membership.
Does paying the deposit guarantee membership?
No. Paying a deposit establishes your place in the presale order but does not guarantee acceptance. Membership is limited to protect table availability and the overall member experience.
When will I be billed?
All memberships renew on the 15th of each month.
If your membership begins on a different date, your first payment will be prorated to cover the period from your start date through the 14th. After that, the standard $195 monthly fee will be charged automatically on the 15th of each month.
Is there a long-term commitment?
No. Membership is month-to-month. There is no annual commitment.
How do I cancel my membership?
You may cancel at any time through your online member account or by contacting Hilo.
Cancel by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on the 14th to prevent the next monthly charge. Cancellation stops future renewals but does not provide a refund for the current paid period. You may continue using the club through the end of that period.
Can I pause my membership?
No. Hilo does not currently offer membership pauses or freezes. You may cancel your membership and apply again when you are ready to return.
Rejoining is subject to membership availability, the current application process, and any new-member fee in effect at that time.
Can Hilo change the membership price?
Hilo may change future membership fees by providing advance notice. Any change will take effect on the date stated in the notice, and members may cancel before the new price is charged.
Can Hilo suspend, terminate, or decline to renew a membership?
Yes. Hilo may immediately suspend or terminate a membership for nonpayment, unauthorized entry, unsafe or disruptive conduct, harassment, property damage, repeated reservation no-shows, violations of the Membership Agreement or House Rules, or other conduct that Hilo determines in good faith is harmful to the club, its members, or the member experience.
Hilo may also decline to renew a membership at the end of a paid membership period when, in Hilo’s good-faith judgment, continued membership is not in the club’s best interests. Any such decision must be made for a lawful reason.
Hilo is not required to provide a detailed explanation for a suspension, termination, or nonrenewal, although it may provide a general notice when appropriate. Hilo will not make membership decisions for an unlawfully discriminatory or retaliatory reason.
If Hilo ends a membership before the end of a paid period for reasons unrelated to the member’s conduct or breach of club rules, Hilo will refund the unused prorated portion of that period.

Does Hilo offer day passes?
Yes. Hilo offers a limited number of day passes. All day passes must be requested and purchased online in advance and are subject to Hilo’s approval.
Walk-in day passes are not available. Hilo may limit or stop offering passes when necessary to protect table availability and the member experience.
How much does a day pass cost?
Day-pass pricing and access hours will be displayed before purchase.
Which tables may day-pass holders use?
Day-pass holders may use the two social tables and join the active player list. Each turn consists of one game, with the winner staying and the next person on the list becoming the challenger.
Day-pass holders may not reserve or use the two member reservation tables.
Does a day pass guarantee playing time?
No. A day pass provides access to the club and the social-table player list, but it does not guarantee immediate playing time or a specific number of games.
Can members bring guests without a day pass?
No. Every nonmember must have an approved day pass or Hilo’s prior written authorization before entering the club. Members may not share their access credentials or admit an unregistered visitor.
Is there a minimum age?
Yes. Hilo membership and day passes are available only to people age 21 and older. Hilo may require valid government-issued photo identification to verify age and identity.
How do members enter the club?
Members receive personal digital access credentials after completing onboarding. Access credentials may be used only by the person to whom they were issued.
Members may not share credentials, hold a secured door open for an unauthorized person, or allow anyone to follow them into the club without approval.
How do day-pass holders enter?
Approved day-pass holders will receive entry instructions for their authorized date and access period. Hilo may require identification, age verification, and acceptance of the Day-Pass Terms before granting entry.
Day passes are personal, nontransferable, and valid only for the approved person, date, and time.
Does Hilo use security cameras?
Yes. Hilo uses video surveillance in common areas for access control, safety, incident review, and protection of members and property. Cameras are not placed in restrooms or other areas where privacy is reasonably expected.
-
Are personal cue lockers available?
Yes. Personal cue lockers are available to members as an optional monthly rental, subject to availability. Current pricing will be displayed before a member rents a locker.
Locker rentals renew monthly until canceled. A locker must be emptied when the rental or membership ends.
What may I store in a locker?
Lockers are intended for cues, cue cases, and ordinary billiards accessories.
Food, alcohol, illegal items, weapons, hazardous materials, perishable items, and anything that could damage the locker or club are not permitted. Hilo may open a locker when reasonably necessary for an emergency, maintenance, suspected rule violation, or safety concern.
Is Hilo responsible for property left at the club?
Members and day-pass holders are responsible for their personal belongings. Hilo is not an insurer of items stored in lockers or left elsewhere in the club.
Please report lost, stolen, or damaged property promptly. Hilo’s responsibility for personal property, if any, is determined by applicable law and the Membership Agreement.
What should I do if I notice damaged equipment or a safety concern?
Stop using the affected table, equipment, or area and report the issue to Hilo as soon as possible. Do not attempt to move, repair, or adjust a pool table, light, electrical device, or other club equipment yourself.
What should I do in an emergency?
Call 911 for any immediate medical, fire, or safety emergency. Once it is safe to do so, notify Hilo using the emergency contact information posted inside the club.
Follow all posted evacuation instructions and never block exits, hallways, fire extinguishers, or other safety equipment.
Is Hilo staffed for emergency response?
No. Hilo may operate without staff on site, particularly during late-night and early-morning hours. Security cameras and access systems are not a substitute for emergency services or personal awareness.
Members and day-pass holders are responsible for using good judgment, following club safety rules, and contacting emergency services when necessary.
